hrmmm... foamy...

I got the catalogue, was looking forward to flipping through the pictures in a spare moment, and then someone pointed out the very bottom of the image. Where she is basking in white foam that covers her crotch.

Ew. That's nasty even without what it's referring to. Who wants dirty foamy stuff that's been expunged from the sea anywhere near their twat? Way to encourage infection and illness.

Never before have I been more struck that they are marketing more than underwear, and marketing it to more than women...

  2. Spume is the word that comes to mind. Y'know, like the nasty stuff you scoop off the top of a homemade stock/broth/soup that has all the impurities in it.

Did you notice the "free spring fling tote"?

It's totally a rape ad. They're mixing this image of the young (supposedly innocent) blonde sporting a childish starfish-clasped bikini top with puerile (is that the right usage of the word? sounds a little disdainful...) colours for the top and bottom with the dirty, "inviting" look on the model's face, a free sex bag and spume at her groin. It suggests that young women are supposed to go off to get ogled and raped when they go off on spring break, or at least get so drunk that they allow/invite it to happen. Oh, let's make it easier by giving away products and discounts. At least, that's what this cover says to me. Not a fan.

  3. Ooh, you're right that it ties super-tightly into the genre of Spring Break Fantasy, innnnteresting.... I didn't see that. Huh.
